Drug Addiction: Methadone Detox Facts

Question: How do i help my cousin break his drug addiction?

He smokes weed four times a day. He has lost jobs because of it, and spends his money on it. He has a girlfriend and a beautiful one year old girl that weed is more important than to him. How do I help him get back on track for the sake of his own life and his babies?

I recommend Rational Recovery for addictions. https:/ / rational.org/ index.php?id= 1 The book is wonderful, and the philosophy is very simple. An addict is responsible for his or her addiction and is the only person who can do anything about it. Sadly,this is hard for loved ones to accept, but it is really true. I would buy the book for him, it is really great, and if you get a chance to read it too, it might help you see that it is out of your hands. I have been on both ends of this drama and there is hope, but only if the addicted person says enough is enough. I truly hope your cousin sees that his life is worth saving, but only he can do so.

The sad thing is that there is really nothing you can do if he doesn't want to change. He has to know he has a problem and want to change. Sorry

Not as nice as the others..... DETOX TIME!!!!! Either use cold turkey or reduce the ammount he smokes every day. After a week he should be completly off of it. Take a week off of work and lock him in a room and detox him... if you go cold turkey make sure he does not try to kill him self or escape... if you do reducing smokes.... do the same thing... keep an eye on him.
