I am doing a business deal with a professional person who I believe (just now realized) could be an addict. Dont know this person well enough to know how long this may have been going on. They seem to function fairly well and act normally accept for a few subtle signs I took notice of. What should I watch out for to protect myself?

That would depend on the level of the addiction. There are always signs if you know what to look for. Many people can carry on with their lives, daily responsibilities,as if there is no addiction. What I call a functional addict. Others can't do this and will become stressed, short tempered.aggressive,unreasonable/ unmanagable, sweaty, perhaps have hand tremors, a wild look in their eyes, perhaps hyperactive, frequent trips to restroom or other private places, bloodshot eyes, etc. Addicts have to have money and will do their best to mask any signs of addiction. They may say they had too much coffee, to cover the jitters, use eyedrops frequently to maintain the illusion of clear eyes, etc. Most professionals will be very good at masking signs of drug use-they need their jobs to continue feeding their addiction.
