Question: My daughter asked me about my heroin addiction and i told her the truth?

She's 14 and she asked me if I would ever use again and I told her the honest truth that my addiction to heroin is not dead, just sleeping. My wife got pissed off at me when I told her that. The truth is I'll always be an addict and I will always want to use, right now I'm not doing it, but that's not to say tomorrow will be the same..if I could snort some smack right now I would. My wife told the kids 6 years ago when I went to rehab that I was never ever going to use again. I've used 8 times since then. Am I wrong?

My dads a drug addict and he uses multiple types of drugs. He screwed up mine and my sister's lives extremely badly. Are your kids okay with your addiction? I suggest you get help and become fully clean.

No you are not wrong. Honesty is the best policy. Seriously, as someone who is currently struggligng with addiction, I know that it is something that will always be with me until the day that I die. I know that I can't make any promises that I will never use again because I don't know what the future holds. But I know that right now, I take every day as it comes and that's all we can do. Your kids deserve to know the truth and I sincerely applaud you for being honest with your daughter. You did absolutely the right thing. And just let your daughter know that if ever she has any questions, that she can talk to you and that you'll always be more than happy to answer any of her questions.
