Lots of people eat candy, but yeah, addicts tend to eat a lot of the stuff. When I was using my diet was so poor. I couldn't be bothered to cook meals. I had no money to spare for 'real' food and I could buy candy while I was stopping off for petrol or waiting on my dealer. I also drank a lot of Cola. Anything high in sugar which needed no real preparation and I could shove in my pocket and eat as the day went on, snack on. Heroin diminishes the appetite, so couple a suppressed appetite with the constant routine of scoring, using, scoring and you forget to eat anyhow. So your blood sugar levels drop, you are malnourished and you crave sugar because unlike healthier foods, sugar and caffeine come already prepared...they're convenient, cheap and can keep a person going all day. That said, many recovering addicts eat candy because they no longer have heroin...its a comfort food, a binge food which replaces heroin. I hope you're daughter is well, and you too. Take care. |
