Question: I took a sip of a heroin addicts cough syrup, will i get hepatits c?

I know this guy who shoots up, and he had some cough syrup that looked uncrupulous, and I took a sip of it stupidly, and also drank out of his soda. Will I get hepatitis C? He doesnt currently shoot up, and is very young, like 23, but who knows, he probably has hep C is my guess. I dont want to have ruined the rest of my life, but I think I might have. Anyone know if I can get hep C from taking a tiny sip or two from an unscrupulous persons beverage? (im not as worried about aids because of the need for blood to blood contact etc.) Also, I have had hep B vaccinations.... Also, this cough syrup was the stuff with vicodin in it, and it was bought from another person who was a drug user. Ok, thanks for the answers guys, but lets say he %100 HAS hep C. Does that change anything? my guess is he probably does. Its that bad. Also, I was hanging out with him because Ive known him since elementary school, and he needed a ride to a job....I used to do oxycontin and vicodin with him, and he had some cough syrup that had vicodin in it, and I stupidly took a small sip of it. I know, its dumb. What worries me most is that he bought it from another druggie, and who knows WHAT that guy has. HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO GET TESTED? I heard with aids you have to wait up to a year....

Very hard to say! To confirm your fear, you must have a blood test for Hep. C! Also, you had the Hep. B vaccination does not mean you also have the positive titers. I had 2 sets of Hep. B vaccinations and the first titer was negative. After the vaccine, you must ask your doctor to confirm that if you have the positive titer for Hep. B! For Hep.C, the incubation period is 15 to 160 days. The average is 50 days. The result is varied from persons to persons. If that fellow does not have any bleeding gum disease, the chance you will get it is unlikely. Hep. B is more dangerous than Hep. C. I recommend you to get the titer done for Hep. B....Well, just to confirm that you have the immunity to Hep. B! The incubation period for Hep. B is 28 to 160 days and average is 70 to 80 days.

You need blood contact to get hep C so unless he cut his lip and it got into a cut in your lip (ie not really gonna happen) its very unlikely. But in future just be a bit careful - and encourage this guy to get checked himself and also get clean.
