I had two dear friends die from a heroin overdose. First I am so sorry dear. Let me assure you they feel nothing in the end. They become so out of it they truly do not. It affects your heart so it basically works too hard like a heart attack. You really don't want to know every scientific detail. It will only make you crazy. They really don't feel pain. People were with my friends when it happened to them and they said they were unconscious. Hope that gives you some assurance. And I am not blowing smoke up your ass just to make you feel better. Believe me. Sorry for your loss.

Heroin depresses, or slows down, the central nervous system. This can cause the heart rate to slow, and blood pressure to drop. Respiratory functions can also be impaired. Prolonged use of heroin can lead to heart and/ or lung failure. Heroin creates conditions of bad health over all, making the body susceptible to illness. Liver disease and pneumonia are just a couple of the problems that can result from the body's lowered immune system abilities. Heroin is also a drug for which the body develops a tolerance. This means that as the body becomes used to the effects of heroin, more and more is needed in order to produce the "rush. " Eventually, as increasingly high dosages are needed just to achieve the same thing that the first dose did, the body becomes dependent on the drug. This means that the body almost needs heroin to function. The heroin has negative effects of the body overall, but the body has become used to having the drug present in its system. Eventually, continually injecting heroin into the same spot can result in collapsed veins. This leads some heroin users to move on to another vein. Some heroin addicts have collapsed several veins as they move on to "usable " entrance points for needles. some cases a person will be knocked out by the drug, and later choke on their own vomit because they could not do the basic rolling over to get rid of the vomit i don't think victims suffer pain much, heroin is a strong painkiller, they used to make dieing soldiers overdose on it in the world wars because it was a painless way to go sorry about you uncle, heroin is not a good drug in any respects, don't make the same mistake as your uncle.

Heroin can makes heart slow down by so much that the heart can no longer supply enough circulation to sustain a person or lungs slowly loose function and person suffocates.

If the needle was still in his arm im sure he felt no pain. probably didn't even have a second to think he was gonna die.

I can assure you, he was in no pain. In all honesty, a heroin overdose is probably one of the easiest ways to go. Basically, you just kind of fall asleep. Similar to what happens when an animal is put down, I would assume. I'm really sorry for your loss!!! But atleast you and your family can take comfort in the fact that he passed easily.
