5 days of feeling deathly ill then it starts to ease up. As soon as you are able to eat (and keep it down), start taking Vitamin B-Complex with a little food (even broth or soup will do at first). Then take a multivitamin at a different time in the day (again with some food or liquid nourishment). Those will help your jangling nerves and racing mind. If you can't make it, go to the emergency room on the 2d or 3d day, they have to take you in if you are withdrawing. If you don't normally smoke menthol cigarettes, try menthol when you smoke again, stay on them a few days to a week. They help your nose and sinuses, the nicotine will help. I know that sounds terrible but it's true. Nicotine withdrawal alone is hell and many people have nightmares. One thing at a time. Motrin or ibuprofen helps alot with muscle and body aches. Alka seltzer plus works for some patients too, and helps with sick stomach. Use tylenol or even aspirin if you don't have anything else but tylenol is hard on your already toxic liver and aspirin irritates your already sour stomach. Benedryl will help with itching and burning and dry eyes and sinuses. They also have a side effect of sleepiness but don't take more than the 50 mg max dose. Sleep as much as you can. Try to keep someone with you around the clock for the first 4 or 5 days. Find somebody in the Narcotics Anonymous (NA) program and they will team up and help you as much as they possibly can. The 2d and 3d days are nearly always the worst for cravings so keep someone with you so you don't feel like you're losing your mind. |
