Question: Help! i am a vicodin addict am starting a methadone clinic.?

(Posted by: on 2009-05-25 16:23:48)

I have been on klonopin for about 5 years. in order to be in the clinic i s had to stop cold turkey 6 days ago. I am sooooo sick. ive never been this sick in my entire life. im having skipped heart beats, sweats, shocks, tunnel vision..... it just goes on and on. im no stranger to pain or anxiety- ive been getting blood clots for 18 years, thats why i started the vicodin. i have no excuse why i abused it. it didnt work as well, i was getting 240 a month 10/ 325s. i told my doctor i wanted to stop. then i had to resort to buying off the street. i feel i am a piece of crap and methadone is my only chance at a real life. im also scared to death about what ive read about it. if anyone could give me some advice, , when is the hell from klonopin going to end(havent slept in 4 days by the way) or anything about the clinic id be so grateful. will they let me start with benzos in my drug test from a week ago? please answer... shawn

My son went through a methadone clinic - and frankly it wasn't a good thing. Methadone has side effects, and is actually more addictive - methadone withdrawal is far worse than withdrawal from opiates. Things that can help you. Start taking Amino Acids - go to GNC and get their Amino 1000 combo pills - 3 pills 3 times a day. Also get extra L-Glutamine , L-Tyrosine, and if you can find it N-acetyl cysteine, and Sam-e. You will also need a healthy dose of B-Complex - they also have that at GNC. Intense aerobic exercise (I know you won't want to do this, but try) can help a lot. It will take a while for all of this to start working ... but Methadone is just trading one addiction (with bad side-effects and horrible withdrawal symptoms) for another (with even more horrible withdrawal symptoms).

You are not a "piece of crap " just because you got addicted to pain killers. Yes, you abused them. But why on earth do these doctors prescribe such high doses in the first place? I think their first vow of being a doctor is "to do no harm ". That goes before anything else, and yet, thousands of people become addicted to codeine, opiates and other things because the doctors prescribe too heavily. Call your doctor. Make an appointment. I am concerned about your heart. It doesn't sound good. Ask your doctor what else you should do. I know someone who has the same problems you do. He is still buying stuff off the street and has not vomited in a long time. He said it felt like he was dying when he first got cut off from his drug. He had major back surgery and had a doctor who prescribed oxycontin (blues and greens) enough to kill an ordinary person. He no longer throws up but needs something for the pain. He doesn't abuse the pain meds he gets but he still craves some of it in his system. You are being very brave and strong. Just because you got addicted doesn't mean you are the scum of the earth. Look at how many people are addicted to cigarettes, booze, coffee, sugar, pot and whatever. You are no worse than they are. They are all addicts, too. Call your doctor. Good luck.
