Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how many countries around the world provide the access to legal methadone clinics for those addicted to opiates? I know that heroin is not a problem that is limited to the western countries, although it is much worse there. I'm sure that all scandanavian countries as well as most western european countries have them, but what about countries in south america? east asia? the middle east? africa? australia? THANK YOU.

Are needle exchange programs and heroin/methadone clinics morally wrong?
I was just reading an article about the lack of federal funding for needle exchange programs in U.S., and one part caught my attention that many people oppose needle exchange programs on the basis that it is morally wrong.I personally think that is ridiculous to not give out needles to addicts. The only considerations that apply here are the practical ones. People who are already shooting up will shoot up with whatever they get their hands on. If we can give them clean needles, then they will be less likely to transmit diseases through needles. Which means that less diseases will be transfered, period. And even if you don't care about junkies, you have to realize that not all junkies look like junkies and that said junkies can transmit diseases through other means, as well.Similarly, I don't see what's wrong with heroin or methadone clinics. They have been proven to be very successful in many countries, yet we are very opposed to them here in the U.S. We have some methadone clinics, but heroin clinics are like a taboo. However, they've worked very well in other countries, like Switzerland.So, in summary, can anyone here rail against needle exchange programs and heroin or methadone clinics, based on morals alone? Im starting a methadone clinic tomorrow??
im starting tomorrow morning and i had a few questions. first off how does the dosage start? like how are they going to know how much to give me? and why do i have to be there soo long my first day? and if i did oxycontin the night before around 8 pm and i go in at 6am are they going to give it to me or not? because i didnt know if mixing them was lethal or anything??? and also do i take home my dosage for saturday and sunday?

I know this is a long question PLEASE PLEASE answer I have wanted to know for two years. THANK YOU SO MUCH. My daughter uses Yahoo Answers I made her ask this Q for me. I was a heavy Vicodin user for ten years. I went from one, twenty, sixty, eighty, and finally to one hundred twenty 750 MG pills per day. I tried to quit at each of the numbers listed above in intervals. When I was taking 120 per day I went to a methadone clinic to get help as part of an out patient program where they put me on maintenance methadone to help me quit. I was doing two weeks of methadone without taking any Vicodin. I followed all the directions and did not misuse the methadone. I do not recall anything during the second week of treatment. However, my friends were still taking me daily to the clinic and had to carry me to get in the car. I don't remember any of it. The methadone clinic kept increasing my dosage and my friends were telling them I was not drinking or eating. My friends were wondering if I needed to be hospitalized and the methadone clinic said no. I ended up slipping into a coma with 100 % kidney and liver failure the same night and my family called 911. I was in a coma for thirty days. Do you think the Methadone clinic was at fault? I was NOT doing any Vicodin. So, what made me sick the methadone clinic or coming off of Vicodin???? Had my family been there I would have died that night. How many people are out there dying right now from the same treatment and trying to get sober. I am two years sober just wondering what happened back in the day

Why the hell are these clinics an acceptable way to get people off of heroin?This drug has worse withdrawal symptoms than heroin that can last a very very long time. We shouldn't be getting people off drugs by putting them on different kinds of drugs. It is terrible what these clinics do to people, it just looks like a scam to me. They don't care about the health of the recovering addicts, they clearly just want money. I really feel bad for the people that have fallen into the trap that these clinics are. It's no doubt that a heroin addict is going to get addicted to methadone when they go there. If they're going to get addicted to heroin, they're going to get addicted to it's substitute as well. So can somebody tell me why these places are legal and accepted? Am I missing something here?" You can call me God" Addicts are NOT content on being addicts. You clearly do not understand how an addiction works. They would want more than anything to get off but their bodies and minds try their hardest to keep them on it through withdrawal symptoms.Meth is a bit different than heroin. The thing with meth and cocaine is that users just think they don't have a problem and that it is a perfectly acceptable way of living life. Once they realize they have a problem or are forced to quit by their family it's not as hard on the body as quitting heroin or methadone. With heroin or methadone you can want to quit really badly but the physical withdrawal symptoms are way too much to bear. With meth it's much more mental than physical. Sure, there are plenty of junkies that want to continue being junkies. But once they realize they have a problem via family or just by themselves, it's just terrible that this is what they are lead to most of the time. A lot of them just don't know what they are getting themselves into.I know it's a physical addiction too. It's just that compared to heroin the physical addiction to meth isn't shit. It's pretty sad that you don't have sympathy for people who have done the same things you have.

I am in a methadone clinic, slip up?
I have been on 80 for about 5 days now and asked them to up me. But I have been taking other methadone on the side. I take about 40mg on the side in addition to the 80. So how do I get of the extra and then after will the 80 still work or will I have withdrawals? I am so confused. Is there someone I can call? I don't know if I want to call my clinic. What action will they take if I tell them I have been taking some for just a few days give or take? I have only been in the program for less than 20 days.

Was addicted to all sorts of opiates over the last few years. Switched to suboxone a year ago and have been gradually weening down. I started with 5 now I am down to 3. I have lost so much money from them so expensive I had medicaid in Ny and just moved to FLorida. Will be some time before I set up insurance.
