Morphine may be chemically different than methadone, but the end result is the same - both disrupt your body's natural opioid production. Morphine should help you feel normal/ well, although the dosage is probably going to be different than for methadone. There are other options, like naltrexone or buprenorphine, personally I don't know much about those. What worked for me was a tapering off of my methadone dose. Your post mentions you are thinking about going to a clinic - I would suggest it - I don't know if you were getting your methadone illegally or if you quit a clinic or pain management place. If you have access to a methadone clinic in your town, this is a valid way to have a quality of life, hold down a job, quit worrying about how you're going to get well, etc. At the beginning, you'll have to go everyday (if you don't already know this), if you can stay clean (random urine analysis, some places observe, some don't), after a while you will get take-homes. Most clinics open like at 5 a.m., so dosing and holding a job shouldn't be a problem. Just stay focused on your desire to be clean, and don't try to detox too fast - wait until long after the craving, fantasies about getting high, etc are gone. But when you are ready, fight the methadone clinic sob's who'll say you aren't ready to be clean, it's in their best business interest to keep addicts on methadone. I started at about 70 mg's methadone, then down to about 53 mg or so, was on that dose range for years, tapering a mg or two every once in a while. Ended up tapering from about 45 mg in about 4 months - it was a little brutal, but manageable. I've been off everything since Dec. 07 - I feel great now. HANG IN THERE!!!! YOU CAN DO IT. I HAVE FELT YOUR PAIN. This is not an easy thing, don't get discouraged. Stay focused and you will make it - stay away from friends, people, situations, etc. that are going to tempt you. If you can handle going cold turkey without relapse - good for you, you rock. If not, get medical help whether pain management doc, methadone clinic, or some of the high dollar rapid detox places. If you can get a doctor to prescribe you methadone, this is going to be the cheapest solution. A clinic is affordable, I've paid from around $180 to $340 per month at different places in the country, and you can pay daily. |
