Considerable low dose,.. which is great. I would recommend continuing to taper that 5mg's at a rate of 20% per week, until you are down to 1mg. (Yes, it does have an effect at such low doses). The thing with methadone is it has an extremely long half life, and builds up in the body (sort of like a toxin). Therefore it takes quite a long time to fully stop effecting you in a negative way when it is stopped. In layman's terms it has a longer withdrawal period than other opiates.. (longer than hydrocodone, oxycodone, even heroin) -- Simple because they are much shorter acting. But that makes no matter , you are at 5mg's,.. which is a huge plus. If you just are going to jump from this dose to quit.. (or you are asking while you are 'out' ) the best thing you can do for withdrawals are: 1) Obtain some clonidine also known as (Catapres) this is an older blood pressure medication, that has been found to help with opiate withdrawal. Yes it is sedating, but many people champion it during withdrawal. 2) Drink lots of fluids .. at least 64oz of water a day.. upwards of 100+ if you can. 3) Eat what you can.. you are likely to lose your appetite. If so, stock up on easy to eat foods, especially if you are nauseous. Ensure drinks are great.. Slimfast, pudding, yogurt, and so on. Gatorade is excellent to drink along with the water. (The better you take care of your body the better you will feel, and recover). The only thing you , obviously, cannot obtain OTC is the clonidine. However, any doctor shouldn't have any problem writing a script for this. The pills are considerably more effective than the patch. All the best in your endeavor. |
