Question: When a person stops takeing methadone how long does it take to come out of there system?

It takes a while to get out there system hun,but the withdrawal symptoms last about 4 days too a week,it will hurt the person alot and seem that they cant do it,but they can there whole body will ache,as the methadone pours out there body,its set in the bones and needs to come out, i hope you or the person that is stopping is doing it correctly and lowering the dosage of methadone every week or so untill your on about 5 to 10 mil a day,otherwise the withdrawal symptoms will be 100 times worse,and good luck ( ",)

I had a deer friend who succumbed to heroin addiction and got off of it by going to a methadone clinic. He was on 150 mgs a day and had to come off of it cold turkey because he went to jail. It took him 6 months to come out of it. It takes a long time for the brain to start making the correct amount of serotonin and dopamine. These are the "feel good " chemicals in the brain. Sleeping will be impossible for a few weeks. Aches and pains in your legs will go away in about a month. The opiate withdrawal induced depression is the hardest and longest thing. The sad thing is some people have damaged themselves to the point that they will never feel the same again. Sad fact of drug addiction. Good luck
