Question: I need a quick answer. does marijuana help methadone withdrawal symptoms?
(Posted by: on 2012-01-01 13:59:58)
My sister is addicted to meth, but goes to the clinic. She missed it today and yesterday and wants me to give her money for meth and she said she's going to rehab soon. I haven't answered her back, but I refuse to give her any money for more meth. I'd give her weed though if that could help her. She said she is throwing up and that she feels really bad. I don't mess with any other drugs so I'm not sure if a gram of weed could help her until she gets to the clinic tomorrow morning. Nothing wrong with weed. There is a lot wrong with methadone. So if trading meth for weed helps her then that would be the best option. I'm not getting into the right and wrong of marijuana, but it's better than meth any day. And she wants $60 and there's no way I would give her that much. I refuse to give her any money to buy meth. |

The best thing you can do for your sister is to tell her to call her or a pharmacist. He is the expert. She doesn't have to give her name. |

I would not give her one cent. Trading one drug for a different drug? Tell her to take some pepto bismal. |

Weed would help the symptoms some but very little. It's better than nothing though. A high dose of immodium and some dramamine and benadryl can also help. Methadone withdrawal is brutal and to go cold turkey is not a good idea. People have died from it. Why hasn't she gone to the clinic? That's what she needs to do as soon as she can. If she wants to get off methadone she needs to go back to the clinic and start tapering her dose little by little. A proper methadone detox will take months depending on the dose. I hope she's not planning on going to rehab before she has tapered. The rehab will not be able to help her with a methadone detox and since withdrawal from methadone can last for months she would be sick throughout the whole time in rehab. Just FYI meth is slang for methamphetamine. Methadone has nothing to do with meth. Methadone is a medication used to treat severe pain and opiate addiction. It's a legitimate treatment method that have higher successrates than any other treatment method for opiate addiction. I understand that you think it's a bad thing but I wonder what you base that on? Most people who feel that way do so because of what they've heard about methadone but what you've heard is usually not true. It's not legal dope or trading one drug for another. That's a common misconception. Another common misconception is that people on methadone maintenance are addicted to methadone. That's not true. People on methadone are physically dependent on methadone, not addicted. Addiction is not the same as dependence. I would highly recommend that you read up on the difference. Addiction is a set of behaviors such as compulsions and obsessions. Dependence is when the body gets used to getting a substance and if the body doesn't get the substance it reacts by getting sick. That's your sister's problem, not that she's addicted to methadone unless she uses it compulsively and obsesses over it. Buying methadone on the street is not a good idea. But if your sister is very sick she can go to the emergency room for help until she can get back to the clinic. The ER doctor can give her methadone under the 3-day exception law (tell your sister about that law). Then she has to go back to the clinic. If she doesn't she could get seriously ill and is very likely to relapse. Once back on the clinic she can start tapering if she wants to. |
