I would recommend a detox or hospital setting as so many different things can go wrong as I'm sure you know, and you will get quite sick and may seizure. I have to applaud you also for your courage to end a deadly addiction such as this one. No matter how many times you try to stop, you get back on the horse, and for this you need to pat yourself on the back. I have been in the recovery world for over 17 years now and have seen quite alot. All you can do is keep trying and each time you do could be the last time you will have to go through the detoxing part of this. If you are going to be at home please don't stay alone. It's always safer with someone else who understands, like another ex addict. You can find this person by making a call to NA (Narcotics anonymous) and someone should come by and go through this with you. Health professionals in the hospital are always the best setting however. To many things can go wrong and especially using again. Take care and congrats again

Well I have been there. And depending what you are on. The best way to go about it is either handle it yourself. By slowly decreasing the amount. That is what I did I was taking 5 vicoden at a time three times a day. Each day I took less and then at one point I took my last half. But once again depending how long you have been on it and what it is you may need to talk to your doc. Stopping meds can cause a shock to your system. Like the pain medication I am on now. When I get off of it I have to check in to a detox. Not because I am abusing it but I have been on it for so long. The chemical bond my mind has with it... I think you should really think about what the safe and easiest way would be and that might be talking to your doc or checking in. I know it sucks. Cool showers kinda helped. But there is nothing over the counter because you are gonna barf it up anyway if your withdraw is that bad.
