Question: Did it become illegal to prescribe opiates unmixed w/nsaids (like codeine) for tooth pain?
(Posted by: itsjunglepat on 2010-06-30 22:04:13)
Tried getting boyfriend Codeine or something not cut w/ NSAIDs for tooth pain. The reasons are valid.. He has no history w/ opiate problems. He drinks, and from what I understand, acetaminophen stays in the system for a while and is probably worse on the system then most people suspect. Ibuprofen caused awful nosebleeds. And now we've something cut w/ aspirin.. which I suspect isn't going to be better than Ibuprofen. Doesn't anyone prescribe anything w/ o NSAIDs anymore? Why do doctors give me such a hard time? Before I removed the question last time, someone claiming to be a doctor was suggesting Tramadol, which seems to be frequently mixed w/ acetaminophen, but not always, and I think it's OTC though I read it causes more withdrawal effects than Codeine. I don't know how easily that occurs. Also, I saw some indication of possible mouth sores, and that definitely would not be good in a dental situation, but again, I don't know how frequent that is. |

Almost all the time, prescription opiates are also mixed with NSAIDs, suc is the case with percocet, AP/ AP series drugs, etc. They do prescribe, although very rarely, pills that are only hydro or oxycodone, but like i said this is mainly after surgeries or something major. Do NOT try tramadol, from what ive heard the withdrawl effects are hellish and the pain killing effects are minor. You might want to see about a codeine cough syrup, or maybe Darvon, although those need scripts and both of them aren't great for pain-killing. Just explain to your doctor how important it is that your boyfriend gets something without NSAIDs and they might prescribe you something. There are so many variations of opiates mixed with another ingredient that there's bound to be something that will work. |
