Will insurance companies still pay for opiates after paying for suboxone?

Question: Will insurance companies still pay for opiates after paying for suboxone?

I have been thinking about going on Suboxone for addiction but I also have chronic pain in my leg and there is a high chance of needed surgery in the future and what I'm afraid of is needing to have surgery and not being able to get pain meds paid for by my insurance company when they know I'm already getting Suboxone for opiate addiction. Thank you in advance for any answers I might recieve on this matter! Douglas B... it's not muscle pain, I've had 3 tibia surgeries & bone grafting from a sever break 11 years ago.. it's pain that shoots up tibia everythime I move my ankle, foot, leg.. I've been dealing w/ this for 11 years & know all the ins & outs w/ dealing w/ pain & I've been on every drug from Vicodin to Methadone to Oxycontin 80 mgs 3 times a day to Opana er 40 mgs 4 times a day. Thank you for your timely response! Subpar... I wasn't planning on using the subs for pain control, I want to use it for withdrawal no longer than 2 months, Like I mentioned in my response to DouglasB... Ive been dealing with this for a long time & I've been on all types of opiates, I am on a long acting opiate now, I've done the Methadone clinics for detox & pain control & when that didnt work I ended up going right back to my pain doctor & he put me back on the Opana Er's 4 x's/ day & between dependency & my stomach & liver being poisoned, I figured I'd try something I haven't tried before. Oh and I was also DX'ed with a neurological disorders called RSD but thats only stage 1 and not the cause of the pain.. but what I'm told... it leads to worse things that pain and sooner or later I will be using a cain by the time I'm 35 due to muscle atrophy and severe limited mobility. I'm 31 now.

If you have a pain in your leg it is coming from a muscle and if you get the muscle it's coming from released the pain will stop. If you pass along which part of the leg and kind of pain I'll get you the how to for releasing that muscle to get rid of the pain.

Short answer, yes they will still pay in the future. think about it....every opiate addict is going to need some kind of surgery in their lifetime. It wouldn;t be fair to make these people suffer needlessly. now, before you make the HUGE mistake I did going on suboxone, do some research. First, all you are doing is trading a short acting opiate for a long acting opiate. second, suboxone sucks for pain control, and it is not intended for pain control, and thirdly, suboxone is 10 times harder to get off of than short acting opiates, fourth, it has ALL the same side effects as what you are taking now, and probably more. Take a few moments and watch this pod cast afflictedandaffected.com/ index.php?option= com_content &view= article &id= 248:steven-scanlan &catid= 40:shows2008 Then go read what people go through trying to get off suboxone at subsux.com, and ask how many people there would recommend what you are thinking of doing...which is suboxone maintenance. honestly, if you can;t wean off your drug by yourself, go to rehab for 30 days. They can make it quite easy. 30 days is nothing compared to being on sub for years. Now, using suboxone for 1 week to get off your drug IS a good idea. That's how 30 days rehabs ddo it now. Good luck.

If you want to detox with suboxone, that is great...However, DO NOT use sub a few months or you will be in trouble with it. 3 weeks is the max you want to be on suboxone. Watch that pod cast Subpar posted. i've seen it, I know that doctor, and he knows his stuff. Starting at about 12 minutes into the pod cast is where it really gets interesting....and it is very accurate. Sub is an evil evil drug, once you want off of it. Don;t listen or take advice from people who are still on it. Thats like getting advice on heroin from a heroin addict who still enjoys it. good luck...oh, and I have a friend that has RSD, and he was diagnosed in his late 20's. They told him he would be in a wheelchair by the time he was 35 too...and he is now 47 and still working as a contractor. He takes boatloads of Oxy, but none the less, he's still working. Point is doctors are wrong more than they are right. good luck
