Question: Pain-killers addiction?
(Posted by: chere t on 2007-02-02 03:54:00)
I am addicted to pain- killers and everyday I promise myself to take less and to try to get through the day but I am unable to do this. Nobody knows that I take these pills but without them my body hurts and I cannot function. I am too young to be doing this and was wondering if anyone else can relate to me and perhaps advise. Thank you. Cherie |

These things can get a hold on you quick. Get help from a professional. If you are unable to do that, you are going to have to just quit cold turkey and suffer throgh it. If it's hydrocodone, you should be over it in about 2 weeks. |

If your addicted to opiates( Vicodin and such) you can quit cold turkey. You WILL feel like death warmed over a few days but it won't kill you. If your taking any drugs that are dangerous if you quit cold turkey(for example withdrawl from methadone unsupervised can kill) than see your doctor and ask for some help. As a matter of fact go see your doctor anyway, he/ she is there to help you. Good Luck!! |

If your pain killers are NSAID ( Non Sterodial Anti Inflamatory Drug) without any sleeping dose like diazepam then it is easy to stop taking these medicines provided you get alternative remedy to kill your pain. On the other hand if it is the sleeping dose that has created addiction then you have to undergo de-addiction programme. For releiving of pain you can take Arnica (30) 3 pills 3 times a day before food & Hypericium (30) 3 pills 3 times a day after food . Both are homeopathic remedies and they are totally safe and they do not have any side effects and will control your pain much better than the pain killers you are using. You can safetly try them and then you can consult a homeopath later if necessary. |

You don't mention the type, most synthetics carry no physical addiction and you can quit cold turkey. morphine can create a physical addiction and cold turkey can kill you. |

HOPE - for the pain to be removed. There is a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies that my chiropractor turned me on to (he is a muscle specialist). It has a 75% success rate when followed either by the individual or with professional help. Worth a look. |
