Question: Struggiling with a pain pill addiction?
(Posted by: Anthony on 2009-11-25 08:39:14)
Have been on pain pills for 5yrs never used them to get high only to help me so i can continue to work. I have got to the the point where i am sick of taking pills, tired of not being able to go anywhere without a few in my pocket. I am not a Junkie just a regular guy no one knows how much i take or can notice a difference in my person when i am on them. The problem is i am tired of taking pills when i am not in pain just to avoid getting sick. Dr tells me it is ok to be physically dependent but i want to just get back to taking a pill when it becomes unbearable to move. the long lasting pills i take each day are great i stay at about a four on a scale of 1- 10 in pain but i hate being controlled by a pill. In Essence the Question i am asking is has anyone a familiar story? |

It does suck to have to rely on a pill just so you can make it through the day, but if the alternative is extreme pain what choice do you have. If and when the time comes that there is aother way to treat your pain you will take it and then you will be weaned off the pain meds, it is the people who take them without reason that suffer the most. |

I have told my story on Yahoo Answer's several times but I think you may benefit from it. i have been on and off narcotic pain medication for 12 years. I was in a car accident and crushed my leg and both feet and screwed up my hips and stuff. I know the struggle of constantly having to count pills and make sure you have enough. i know how it is to have to take them with you if your going out for the day just in case you start feeling bad. i know all of these things and yet I still take them because the alternative is chronic pain and that is horrible. I have tried the holistic way and the over the counter way. I have tried every alternative possible and the only time i get relief or any sort of comfort is in the form of a pill. I am taking tramadol and Naproxen. The tramadol is the weakest opioid available but it is very addictive regardless of what doctors tell you. When I wake up my head hurts from not taking one for eight hours when I sleep. I take them every 4-6 hours everyday or I will feel bad. I took Percocet for 2 years and it was less addictive then this stuff. It is a love hate relationship though because since i am tolerant to hydrocodone and can take 20 a day and feel nothing, Tramadol gives me slight euphoria with a burst of energy that is great. The moral of my story is taking pain meds and knowing your addicted and taking them is better then being in horrificc pain and being grouchy and sick of life. Your doctor will monitor you and make sure your OK. I also want to let you know that as long as your taking them its all good but nowadays getting BACK on them is very hard. Doctors are very scared to prescribe them even when you need them and are in chronic pain. try to deal with the pill counting and constant physical reminders that your addicted and think about the greater good. Be well friend. |

Yeah, but instead of any pain at all I am pain free by having released the muscles that were creating the pain. I have finally found relief after a lifetime of suffering. I fell out of a car when I was 3 and hit by another when I was 7. I never knew what pain free was even after 30 years of physical therapy, chiropractors and even acupuncture. If I knew what or where your pains were I would have sent along the types of releases needed to get rid of the pain. |
